My real name given at birth is Kawing. So, why on earth am I Rachel then? The two names have no connections. I am sure we can all see. Rachel And Kawing are pretty much drastically different.1
At the age of three I was enrolled in an International school in Hong Kong. That means it's a British style school. So, I attended pre-K there. Some English speaking teachers decided that Kawing was too hard to pronounce and thus told my dad I must have an English name. My dad didn't like the sound of it, but had to because the school said they'd give him three days to pick a name or else they'd pick it for him. So, dad came up with the names: Nancy, cicillia, Karen, and Rachel. Now don't ask me how these names came about, because I don't know.2
Anyhow, dad had me pick. So, he gave me the names Rachel, Nancy, and Karen first. He reordered the name several times and all of the times he shuffled them I picked out the name Rachel. He took out the name Nancy and replace it with the name Cecillia. 3
So, this time, the names were: Rachel, Karen And Cecillia. He rearrange the names a few times. Again I kept on choosing the name Rachel. So, thus today, my English name is Rachel. I hope soon I can change my name to officially be Rachel. I dislike my Chinese name.

Wow Rachel, I'm staggered at the ammount of stuff you've posted on this one board.
Anyway, I find it rather interesting that a lot of Chinese people I've run into don't go by their real names, while Japanese people still seem to. Chinese names aren't that hard to pronounce. Japanese ones are just as difficult sometimes.
I write a lot, so.... there's quite a few more.
